A wise man named David

May 15, 2008

David Putman that is. Yesterday in out team meeting David Putman shared our belong and become time and I was really impacted by what he had to say. He is kind of a Johnny One Note (his words) right now talking about discipleship since his new book came out a few weeks ago. The thing that impacted me the most was his words that we are to make disciples. This is something that God has stuck into my heart before, but God reopened it through David yesterday.

You see my nature is to make converts. I am a go out and draw people into church so we can tell them about Jesus guy, but David’s challenge was to make the people we have, volunteers and students and leaders, disciples of Christ. More specifically he challenged me to make disciples of my own family. This was a huge challenge to me as I raise my boys and love my wife.

So pick up DP’s book if you haven’t and read it along with me as I try to follow Jesus in making disciples.

FUEL

May 13, 2008

This is the last week to sign up for Fuel. I am fired up about Camp. We are already taking a great group and are going to have an awesome time together. We are going to do all the fun stuff, but I know that God is going to work in our group and in our lives through this week. I am so looking forward to what will happen.

Don’t miss this. If you have a student who is not signed up, get them signed up so they will not miss this.

Parents Rock

May 3, 2008

I got to spend some time with some 5th grade parents tonight and they have a real desire to see their kids know Christ. It was so good to talk with them and share some thoughts and try to encourage them as they make the leap into MS with their kids. All in all I hope that they both leap, the parents into a new kind of relationship and the students into the chance to capture who God has built them to be.

The topic we talked about most was talking to your kids about sex. It isn’t necessarily all the details as much as it is cultivating an environment where your kids are free to discuss it. They need to know that it is safe for them to ask questions and that parents are cool to open up. It is hard work, but the benfits are immesuarble. So if you need some resources let me know, but just start a conversation. The next time sex comes up in any media you encounter, just ask you kids what they think. It will be a huge start to a great conversation.
